Getting started
To get you started with building your new site, we initially set the site up with a set of standard pages and menus:
Home page
This is set up as a landing page using the Widgets page template. The home page is configured in Settings->Reading to be a static page.
As sites are initially blank, it may be advisable to create content for your home page which gives users some information about your project, and either remove the about page from the main menu, or link to it from the home page. Eventually, you home page should only contain calls to action - links to content within your site - and act as a way of driving visitors to the parts of the site you feel are most important. Once your site has matured a little, you could re-instate the about page in the top menu and replace the content from the home page with links to other content on your site.
About Page
This page should describe your project, and include any aims, objectives, details of funding, etc.
If your home page doesn't have a lot of content on it, you could use that to display information about your project and either replace this page, or use this page to display extended information about your project or topic.
Blog Page
This page is a placeholder for your Posts - it is configured, along with your static home page, in Settings->Reading. If you are not planning on running a blog, this page can be deleted and removed from the top menu. If your site has infrequent news updates, only a few events, and is unlikely to contain many opinion pieces and articles, you could use the Posts on your site, in conjunction with Categories to collect all topical content in the blog page, i.e. you can create categories for News, Events and other items, and publicise them using the blog. Otherwise, if you have regular news or events you may wish to use those features instead or in conjunction with posts.
Privacy Page
This page contains a sample privacy statement which has been added to the site in concordance with the policy on privacy notices available on the communications website. It contains standard statements taken from this site, and a list of cookies which are set by the site for various purposes. Please note that if some plugins are used on the site which set cookies, these cookies need to be listed on this page in addition to the ones set by the theme. You will be alerted to this when you request the addition of plugins to your site.
Copyright Page
This contains standard text of a copyright statement. If you choose to include any content on your site which has additional copyright requirement, or if you wish to license the content on the site differently, please edit this page to reflect these changes. There is information available on the library website about copyright and you should also consult the University of Leeds Terms and Conditions to familiarise yourself with the copyright section there.
