Using News
News is very similar in its behaviour and display to Posts – it allows you to separate news items from blog posts to free up posts to be more targeted and specialised. It also allows you to have a searchable news page, and to maintain your news categories separately from the categories you use for other content types.
Create new news items as you would create a new post, and make sure you add a featured image (800px x 400px if possible). You can tailor the manual excerpt for News items so the teasers on your news page can be different to the first few lines of your news article.
News Settings
This is where you can customise how your news is displayed:
- Page title - set a custom title for your news archive page, which is also used in the breadcrumb. If you also want to change the URL of the news archive, you can edit the permalink in Settings->Permalinks.
- Page introduction - add some introduction text to appear at the top of the news archive page.
- Hide Search - remove the search box from the news archive page.
- Categories - whether or not to show categories on the news archive or news pages (shown by default).
- Related news - show news related by category at the bottom of the news pages.
